Studies on an Unknown Compound from Argyreia barbigera Choisy
- Argyrelil barblgera Choisy (Min-go-ga in Myanmar) is widely distributed in Myanmar. The rhizome of Min-go-ga is used as amernorrhoea, diuretic, elephantiasis, paralysis, laxative, arthritis, pneumonia and gonorrhoea. An unknown pure compound could be isolated from the rhizome of Argyrelil barblgera Choisy by applying advanced chromatographic methods, such as Thin-Layer and Column. An unknown pure compound was confirmed by phytochemical test which gave positive test for sterol. The molecular formula of unknown compound could be determined by some modem spectroscopic methods such as infrared, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance, 13C nuclear magnetic resonance, DEPT (Distortionless Enhancement by Polarization Transfer), HSQC (Heteronuclear Single Quantum Coherence) and Mass spectroscopic methods. The planar structure of this sterol was elucidated by advanced spectroscopic techniques, such as COSY (Correlation Spectroscopy) and HMBC (Heteronuclear Multiple Bond Coherence).
